Description

The Message (1903) by Thomas Cooper Gotch, depicted a classic biblical story of the Immaculate Conception. Gotch combined the historicism and romantic decorative elements on his painting to distinguish his modern style against the prevailing trend in late eighteenth century. A modern lady wearing a medievalist dress with Gothic background is an excellent symbolization of his style.
